Software and Production

More than 35TB of MERIS FRS products from coastal zone will be processed using BEAM Technology. The software will be under the GNU Public License.

The CoastColour Project

The European Space Agency has launched the CoastColour project to fully exploit the potential of the MERIS instrument for remote sensing of the coastal zone. The product requirements have been derived from a user consultation process. All data will be made online available from this Website.
CoastColour is developing, demonstrating, validating and intercomparing different Case 2 algorithms over a global range of coastal water types, identifying best practices, and promoting discussion of the results in an open, public form.

The demise of ENVISAT in April 2012 determined the end of the NRT service within CoastColour. However, all MERIS Archive products that have been processed are available via the CoastColour archive.

CoastColour products

All MERIS Full resolution (300m) data of the CoastColour test sites and of the years 2005 to 2009 have successfully been processed into an improved top-of-atmosphere product, the so called L1P product. Also a set of products of the year 2006 of atmospherically corrected reflectances (L2R) and water properties (L2W) are available as demonstration products. An NRT service has been set up which processes the most recent MERIS products to all 3 fore mentioned product levels.
